The  P-7 classes are an essential part of our school, as it is where strong foundations and lifelong commitment to learning are established.  Our curriculum has been developed around a Differentiation Model, where teachers sculpt and shape the curriculum to support the needs of individuals and groups in their classrooms.

Education programs have been developed using the Early Years Curriculum and QCAR, with a strong focus on literacy and numeracy.   There is a strong focus on individual student improvement, with teacher setting targets and goals for each child to ensure that students have rigorous but achievable goals.

Students entering the secondary phase of their learning have different needs, and our programs reflect this.  Students in years 8-10 have core subjects that they must complete, but there are also options for choosing electives including Performing Arts, Home Economics, Marine Studies, Manual Arts, and Visual Arts.  

Senior School students at Western Cape College specialise in courses of study that will prepare them for either full time employment or further study. It is an expectation that students become increasingly independent and self motivated in their approach to their course of study.  It is the principle of High Expectations that students have of themselves and those around them that is central to their progression to the next phase of their lives.

The curriculum is designed to challenge each student regardless of their academic ability. Students have the flexibility to select and complete courses of study that specific and appropriate to their career aspirations. As a result it is an expectation that:

“Every Student, Everyday, Attending and Achieving in Every Subject”.

Western Cape College students are also able to study a range of subjects through Distance Education.   Delivery is by mixed mode and includes:

• e-mailed lessons
• shared web space
• internet lessons
• telephone lessons
• HF radio lessons
• hands-on lesson materials.
