Home - School Communication

Communication between home and school is actively encouraged. There are several avenues available both parents and staff.

(a) Telephone calls, notes or personal contact. (Telephone numbers, contacts and addresses should be kept current in the school records. Parents are urged to attend to these matters if necessary, so that emergencies, particularly, can be handled without delay).

(b) Parents are always welcome at the school for a regular classroom activity or a special program. Your voluntary assistance in the classroom, sporting program, excursions... is sincerely appreciated and we are sure that you accept the need to act with discretion and confidentiality at all times.

(c) NEWSLETTERS - The College Newsletter is published in the Weipa Bulletin weekly and can be found in the center of this publication. The Weipa Bulletin is published every Friday.

(d) Interviews between parents and teachers, or parents and a member of the Administration Team, can be arranged - preferably by appointment as this is the surest way that sufficient time can be given to both parties for discussion, and the teacher's other professional obligations are not greatly affected.

(e) REPORTING TO PARENTS

(i) Parent Evenings: Belief: Parent Teacher Evenings are seen as being one strand in maintaining a good School Community Relationship. Purposes: Meeting the Teacher and other parents. Providing information on * Curriculum areas *Timetable *Teacher's philosophy/expectations eg behaviour, homework *Attending to parents' request if sought prior to the meeting *Interacting with parents *Clarifications *Not a parent/teacher interview situation

(ii) Parent/Teacher Interviews: Apart from "daily" concerns, interviews are held to discuss your children's academic and social development towards the middle of Semester 1. If your child is having persistent difficulties more frequent interviews will be requested. Notification of dates and times will be arranged by your class teache

(iii) Progress Reports: Written reports on your child's progress are made out on the School's Progress Report Form twice a year ie mid year and end of year. An interview may be arranged, if required, to expand on this written report.
