Staff Member of the Month - June 2006

Kathy Street, her husband Charlie and their three children arrived in Weipa from Cairns at the beginning of the year.

Kathy took up the role of Behaviour Management Teacher at Western Cape College at that time and has worked tirelessly since then to assist teachers and students alike to get the most out of school.  Kathys quiet determination and perseverance and her cheerful and positive nature have made her an asset to the staff at the College.

A dependable and professional person, Kathy shares her expertise with diverse groups within the school community including parents, administration, staff and students.  She is also currently leading the review process of the Colleges Behaviour Management Plan.   Congratulations Kathy!

"NOTHING SUCCEEDS LIKE SUCCESS"

Western Cape College Weipa Campus is acknowledging the successes of its staff through a recently launched Reward and Recognition Program. The program which has met with resounding community support, follows a process of peer nomination and panel selection. It is open to all staff at the campus. Each recipient will be announced at the monthly whole staff meeting as well as being recognised in a profile in the Weipa Bulletin.

Weipa Head of Campus, Mr Tony Whybird, said, We are very fortunate to have highly skilled and dedicated staff here at Weipa. Many of our staff go that extra distance to make a difference to the students who attend our school and it is important that we recognise the valuable contribution they make to the education process. The generosity of the community in donating prizes towards this program also highlights the communitys awareness of the need for such a program.

At the end of the school year, each of the monthly recipients will go into a draw to win return flights for two to Cairns as well as an accommodation package. Nominees will also receive prizes kindly donated by Weipa businesses. The staff of Western Cape College would like to thank the following businesses for their generous support:

Sunstate Airlines

ITEC Employment Weipa Travel
Weipa News/Betta Electrical Trevor and Pam Snodgrass Holiday Inn

Parents and students who would like to nominate their teachers for the outstanding work that they do can nominate them through the NIETA Foundation. Nomination forms are available from the Heads of Stage Schooling, Ms Helen Foulger and Ms Sheryl Devers.
