Megan Long - Head of Senior School & Head of Student Support Services Personal As a young staff member of Western Cape College I bring a vibrant and exciting air to the Senior School and Student Support Services team. I have taught at Western Cape College since 2001 and enjoyed watching the College grow. I love working with youth and have enjoyed getting to know many of the students at Western Cape College. Role Head of Senior School As the Head of Senior School I look after the students and staff working within the Year 10 - 12 year levels. Andrew Brandon the HOD of Vocational Learning works with me to coordinate the vocational offerings including certifcated course, traineeships, and apprenticeships. I focus on the academic subject offerings and ensure that our OP eligible students have every opportunity to reach their potential. As the Head of Senior Schooling all student issues related to Year 10 -12 can be directed to me. Head of Student Support Services As the Head of Student Support Services I lead the team of specialists ensuring that Western Cape College has a supportive school environment for all students. The team consists of: Guidance Officiers, Learning Support teachers, Special Needs unit, Reading Recovery, Behaviour Management teacher, Youth Worker, and School Based Youth Health Nurse. This team of people work across Western Cape College's four campuses to ensure that all students have access to these essential services. Current Focus Head of Senior School Senior School is driven primarily by the Education and Training Reform Framework (ETRF). Priorities include working towards the new Certificate of Education, increase in compulsory school age, earning or learning, variety of subject offerings for both academic and vocational pathways. Planning for these changes are likely to include changes to our timetabling, staffing and facilities. Head of Student Support Services The team within Student Support Services is a relatively new team. Prior to Western Cape College many of these services were provided via a fly in fly out service. The team is constantly working not only to keep up with the latest Education Queensland strategies e.g. National Safe School Framework, we are back-tracking to identify students and provide resources and planning to cater for their needs. |
