Bruce Houghton - Head of Middle School Personal Having graduated from James Cook Univeristy in 1991 with a Bachelor of Education my first teaching position was at Kowanyama State School teaching years 6 and 7. In 1993 I moved to Cairns to Woree State School. In 1997, I moved back to Kowayama as the literacy/ numeracy teacher in the high school. In 1998, I was took on the acting HOD (Band 5) role before winning the Deputy Principal (Band 6) position. In 2000 I moved to Pormpuraaw State School as the acting Principal, winning the position in late 2000. My next move was to the Western Cape College where I became the Head of the Middle School (Band 6) and oversaw the implementation of the New Basics Curriculum in the Middle School. From September 2004 to March 2005 I was the acting Head of the Weipa Campus (p-12). Currently my substantive position is Head of Middle School (Band 7). Role Head of Middle School I am accountable for the learning outcomes of Middle School students (years 4 to 9) across the Western Cape College.Since July 2002 I have overseen the development and implementation of the future orientated New Basics Curriculum in the Middle School. Current Focus Further development and implementation of the WCC Middle School Action Plan is the current focus for the Middle School. A major project that I am currently working on is a feasibility study into the establishment of an outdoor education program and facility in Cape York. |
