Gambling Community Benefit Fund Project Completed
The much awaited shade area between the Year 6 and the Year 4/5 blocks is now completed and has been well received by students, staff and parents at Weipa Campus, Western Cape College. Funds for this project were obtained by the P/C from the Gambling Community Benefit Fund. This organization gives funds to community groups and the P/C applied last June 2004 with the aim of assisting them to provide much needed shade for students. The area looks fabulous with the shade structures nestled in with gardens to create a great eating and quiet area for students.
The Year 6 students recently used this area having a BBQ as a culminating activity for their Queensland Theatre Company visits. The area got the thumbs up from staff and students who were able to enjoy a celebration using the seating and shade to relax in comfort and privacy.
Special thanks to the Gambling Community Benefit Fund for providing in excess of $26 000 for the project, the different community groups who wrote letters of support, parents and principal Mr Tony Fuller for his interest and support. The project has been completed by the WEM group and is a welcome addition to Weipa Campus. Special thanks to Mrs Jenny Aspinall who wrote the successful submission.
