Drivers
A register of suitably registered drivers will be kept in the school general office. This register will be known to P & C and ASSPA Committees.
This list of authorised drivers is expected to be mainly staff members of the Weipa North State School, with support and non-teaching staff particularly encouraged to obtain their heavy vehicle / light rigid vehicle licenses, but may contain the names of parent drivers at the Principals discretion.
The school should investigate any costs incurred in obtaining a heavy vehicle licence, with the view to reimburse those who obtained their licence for the main purpose of being able to drive the school bus.
Safety
The following should be kept on board at all times: fire extinguisher, first aid kit, drinking water.
Any breakages should be reported without delay to the Principal or Registrar.
Code of Behaviour should be followed, in line with that disseminated by Qld Transport (see brochure).
Cleanliness
The teacher in charge of each excursion is responsible to ensure the bus is cleaned if necessary after the excursion. A bannister brush is to be kept on the bus.
No food or drinks (other than plain drinking water) are permitted.
Supervision
At least two adults in bus at all times with younger groups to maintain 1 adult per 5 preschoolers or 1 adult per 12 students in Years 1,2,3.
Adult supervision should be appropriate to the age, maturity and responsibility of the student group.
Priority for usage
A booking system should be used. Brief description of reason for using the bus (and destination) should be noted on the booking sheet, not just the name of the driver.
Excursions greater than walking distance to be given priority.
School use only not to be borrowed by outside groups.
P & C and ASSPA Committees should have endorsed any long trips on dirt roads.
GeneralA log book is to be maintained to record each journey, starting and finishing odometer readings, destination, drivers name, student group.
