Rob Jennings - Head of Campus Mapoon
Personal
After working in Park Ridge State School I transferred with my partner (now wife) Alex to Weipa North State School. During this period we also taught at Jessica Point (Napranum) State School.
Upon leaving Cape York, I spent the next five years at Chancellor State College. Here I was privileged to work in a dynamic and forward thinking team which led me to seek a position of higher duty. I acted in the Deputy Principal role for six months before accepting the invitation to return to the Cape at the Western Cape College Mapoon Campus.
Role
Without restating all of my accountabilities in my position as documented in the Western Cape College Executive Manual, I see my major role as providing educational leadership and direction for the students, staff and community of Mapoon. I aim to provide a safe and supportive environment where students and parents are welcomed and valued. I model my expectations, acknowledge my accountabilities and work closely with the Western Cape College Executive Team.
Current Focus
My focus for this year is threefold:
- Student attendance
- Building community trust and involvement
- Student performance
I intend on achieving my focus goals by:
- Empowering and challenging my staff to provide dynamic and relevant learning environments and activities.
- Displaying to the community that we believe in the importance of education.
- Working with my staff, college and community to develop a curriculum using the New Basics Framework that delivers quality educational outcomes.
- Providing real strategic data which show student developmental levels and can be used to modify and improve our existing programs.
