Personal

My teaching career began in Southside Brisbane. After refining my practise as a classroom teacher I trained in Reading Recovery. In 2000, I transferred to Weipa as a Reading Recovery teacher where after a couple of years I returned to the classroom as a junior school teacher. I have watched and been involved in the exciting transition of Weipa North State School into Western Cape College and during this time observed many positive changes take place for all of our students. At the end of 2003 I took leave from teaching to work in the private sector (Comalco) and travel through Africa. Upon my return to Australia, I worked briefly at the Weipa Multi-Purpose Facility before taking up the opportunity to act in the Head of Junior School position.

Role

As Head of Junior School I am responsible for the implementation and development of the junior school curriculum, academic outcomes and intervention programs across the college. I am also responsible for junior school operations, pastoral care, budgeting and professional development at Weipa Campus.

Current Focus

My current focus is ensuring the continuity and integrity of Literacy practices across the junior school. I am in the process of carrying out classroom visits to gather teaching ideas, methods and practise. This will be formulated into a Literacy Best Practice Document for Western Cape College. The implementation and development of the New Maths Syllabus in also of high importance this term along with the review of the junior school core curriculum.
