READ AND TALK ABOUT STORIES

Students will view, read and listen to fiction stories presented in different media forms. They will analyse characters and setting and compare different media, incorporating their own experiences. They will present their ideas in a performance using a selected combination of words, visual images, music and drama.

ANALYSIS

Analyse fiction stories using diagrams. Analysis must show similarities / differences between and interactions of characters, plot, setting and media style.

ANALYSIS

Compile a group book to display diagrams.

  • Characters - YCDI report cards and graph results with generalisations
  • Plot - introduction, complication and resolution. Comparing where theme is located in each story.
  • Media - venn diagram
  • Other - mind map, sociogram, etc

MEANINGFUL TRANSFORMATION

Use words, images, music and drama to show understanding of theme in chosen books.

MEANINGFUL TRANSFORMATION

Retell a chosen story which clearly depicts theme onto power point with music backing. Visual images which are drawn by students will be scanned into the powerpoint. Students then tell the story dramatically in front of the screen.

EMPATHY

Share personal experiences that show identification with and insights into characters and their experiences.

Students choose experiences, feelings and /or emotions that they share with the character and write stories about their own experiences.
