‘Cornflakes’, ‘No, Weetbix’. It’s in Aurukun and the day is already under way for the Western Cape College tuckshop staff...  Wayne McGill coordinates the menu  providing tasty, healthy meals for all the Aurukun students. Breakfast club, Brain Break, lunch and afternoon tea all help supply and sustain the energy needed for every child to concentrate and learn to their highest potential.

All meals are planned to contain a large nutritional value and adhere to the ‘green, amber and red policy’ of the ‘Smart Choices’ dietary guidelines.

Students can choose to make use of the breakfast club before school with a variety of cereals and warm milk.  Lunch meals (the main meal of the day) are based on a combination of meat, carbohydrates and vegetables and range from stews with rice to pasta and pizza.

Brain break, consisting  of "bread and spread" is prepared in classrooms and served at approximately 9.30am.  These sandwiches provide a mid-morning energy boost to sustain concentration in prime learning time.

Afternoon tea is assorted fruits and Milo or water. Favourites with the students include watermelon, corned beef and vegies, Friday sausage sizzles and of course Attendance reward fruit juice based icy cups!
