Visual Impairment

 

Visual Impairment (VI)

 

Vision Impairment may be:

  • Congenital (present from birth)
  • Acquired (through accident, illness or disease)
  • Hereditary (genetic, congenital or later onset)

 

In the educational context visual impairments vary in degrees.  They are defined as follows:

  • Partially sighted indicates some type of visual problem has required further support through special education.
  • Low vision
