Leon joined the WCC team in July 2006 as the Head of Middle School before making the step to Head of Campus in July 2008.
As the Head of Campus, Leon is responsible for the leading and managing the operation and the direction of the Western Cape College, Weipa Campus. This responsibility spans across the entire Prep to Year 12 contact and Leon enjoys working ‘hands-on’ with the students and staff.
Leon finds working at Western Cape College rewarding due to its reputation as a student centred school with a culture of high expectations of its staff and students and its ability to deliver innovative programs.
As a dedicated educational professional, Leon applies the Latin philosophy of ‘Locoparentis’ to his role as Head of Campus. Locoparentis is Latin for teacher and means ‘in place of parent.’ Leon believes that Teachers “find themselves in a special place with the advantage to play a key role in this student’s lives.” Leon also believes this comes with certain obligations to the student.
Leon aims to fulfil these obligations as the Head of Campus by ensuring the continuation on the Service Guarantee program for all students, assisting students to be independent and employable and by providing a school environment where all students, staff and community can strive together to get the best for the Weipa students.
With formal qualifications in education, Leon is also a member of the Queensland Association of State School Principals, Australian Primary Principal’s Association and in his spare time enjoys playing golf and is an active member of the Western Cape Assemblies of God Church as Assistant Pastor.
