CROC FESTIVAL WEIPA 2006

The Croc Festival came to Weipa in 2006, full of life and energy.  With two fun-filled days of activities and two nights of amazing performances to look forward to, we were in for a treat again this year!

Weipa, Mapoon and Aurukun combined to sweep us off our feet with the Grand Finale as the Croc Festival took to the stage.  After a disappointing start to the week, (our performance being postponed due to rain in the middle of the dry season), the time finally came for us to show everyone what we had been working so hard on for the past five months.

Over 60 students from all three campuses (Grades 4-12) joined forces to create an incredible performance which told a truly Australian story.

The performance told a story about our individual beginnings and aimed to highlight our collective future.  We recognised the different backgrounds that all Australians have come from and the journey they have made, seeking to celebrate key aspects of that; our Islander and Aboriginal Heritages and our non-Indigenous heritages.

Our message was that through acceptance and tolerance of each other our future is bright: fulfilling, exciting and rich with opportunity.

The opening scene set the mood as the audience watched the Mapoon created Awakening, and it continued through the Old Fashioned European dance, the students own choreography in the Islander dance and Aurukuns eagle inspired celebration.

The finale was filled with life and colour as students from all three campuses finished the Croc Festival Performance nights with energy and excitement.  As the students ran off the stage, it was obvious what a rewarding experience it had been.

There are so many people to thank and a lot of people who can take pride in the knowledge that they contributed to the resounding success of Western Cape Colleges amazing performance.
