LISA O'MALLEY -  Head of Mapoon Campus

Personal

After completing 12 years of schooling in Weipa, I attended James Cook University in Townsville where I obtained my Bachelor of Early Childhood Education.   Due to my great love for the Cape region, I returned to Weipa where I have taught for the past four years.  During this time, my main role was as the Year 3 Team Leader.

Within this role, I was responsible for the completion of Rich Tasks as well as supporting colleges to implement the New Basics Curriculum.  I am now proud to be a new member of the Mapoon community and assume the role of Acting Head of Campus.

My Role:   As the Head of Mapoon Campus, my core focus is ensuring that students achieve high quality learning outcomes in a safe, supportive school environment that is sensitive to cultural and community needs.  Through a focus on improving attendance, and the development and implementation of intellectually rigorous curriculum, I will work collaboratively with students, staff, parents and community members to deliver the outcomes for which I am accountable.

As Head of Campus, my goals for this semester are:

  • continuing the high standard of student attendance
  • fostering strong relationships between the school, parents and community.
  • developing high quality curriculum to address reading, writing and spelling outcomes.
  • improving Campus resources and infrastructure.

I will achieve these goals by:

  • working with students, staff, parents and community networks to develop a shared goal for 100% attendance for all students
  • developing partnerships with parents and community groups to establish co-operative approaches to improving educational outcomes for all students
  • implementing an Intensive Literacy Block that will run each day P - 6.  This will allow students to develop literacy skills by providing modeled, shard and guided reading and writing opportunities that are specific to each individuals learning needs
  • seeking a variety of funding opportunities and utilsing existing resources to maintain, upgrade and build facilities, to improve the physical environment of the school
