It is an expectation of Western Cape College that all students are encouraged to complete homework on a regular basis. The following are the guidelines for its implementation
- Homework should be set on a nightly or weekly basis.
- It must have direct relevance to the skills learnt in the classroom at the time and not used as a chore of little value.
- Schools do not have the power to enforce compulsory homework, but encourage and support its practice.
- Completion of homework should be monitored and marked when appropriate.
- If a student fails to complete set homework then an offer to assist its completion is appropriate. It can be done in the student's own time, but should not be perceived as a detention. It is essential that an understanding be established with all Parents on the level of follow-up requested by them. A simple phone call or note can open these lines of communication. This relationship should be established early in the year.
- Set assignments used for formative or summative assessment fall under different guidelines (refer to the College / Ed Qld Assignment Policy)
