This year has seen Year 11 students given the opportunity to study Multi-Media. This new subject allows students to look into different forms of media from radio, TV, film, music and the Internet.
The Year 11s have been give the opportunity by Comalco to put their skills to a real life task and produce a video entitled "Keeping Weipa Kids Safe". The video will focus on riding motorbikes around the mine area and tailings dam, it will also include the dangers of overhead power lines in the town area.
The class has been given the whole year of class time to produce the final product, which will be a huge task due to the fact that they have walked into the task with no experience in this field.
The class has already commenced the task by participating in visitor and mine inductions, visits to the sites in focus and meeting with Comalco employees that will be working on the project with the students. The students involved must at all times adhere to Comalco's safety regulations giving them the experience of working in a real work environment.
This is an amazing opportunity for the students as their work will be reproduced for distribution to and used by the school and all Contractors in Weipa. An opportunity that is not usually available to school students. We are looking forward to an amazing final product; keep your eyes open at work, maybe you may actually get to see the fruits of their labour.
Good luck kids and enjoy the learning experience! |
