The stall run by a group of students from the WCC Student Leadership Group determined to do something in aid of the Cyclone Larry victims raised almost $900 on Sunday at the Easter Markets. Students who deserve a special mention for asking for donation of goods and organizing the stall are Brioni Brooker, Lisa Love, Rosselle Canilao, Denica Russ, Kirstie Buchholz, Michelle Radlof and Bill Nixon. Thanks also to Jessie Penton and Caitlin Hunter and everyone else who helped out on the day.
Weipa people gave very generously to the appeal and not only supported the raffles and other items for sale at the stall but put their loose change into the tins that were taken around. The students helping in the Coffee Shop also very successfully passed the tin around while people were enjoying their afternoon tea. These tins were also passed around at the Cross Country on Tuesday. Students are hoping to reach their target of $1000. The money will be deposited in the Premiers Disaster Relief Appeal Fund this week.
Special thanks must be made to a number of businesses and people who donated goods for the stall:
-
Mitre 10 who donated a wheelbarrow, extension lead and light which was raffled and won by Fiona Bielby.
-
Weipa News and Sport who donated a $30 gift voucher which was won by Stacey Love
-
Weipa 4WD and Camping for the donation of a picnic rug, BBQ set and camel bag won by Bill Rollin
-
WCC Student Council who donated the money to purchase the Easter goodies. First prize was won by Lisa Love and 2nd prize by Patsy.
-
A $100 Board was also on offer and was won by Lisa Francisco.
-
P&C who donated all the desks, cupboards etc that were sold on the stall and allowed the use of their shed ( and to the small band of P&C ladies, teachers and students who gave up their Sunday morning to clean up the shed)
-
Hibberd Library who donated the books
-
Speedy who donated the pumpkins.
Weipa should be very proud of the effort these students have made and of their own generosity in supporting this worthy cause. |
